To The Promethean Workers Association:
I went to your website and read your “Trademarking Common Heritage” paper. I am a member of the Zeitgeist Movement. I just joined about a month ago, but I watched the videos and was inspired by the message of Fresco and infuriated by the truths the videos put forth. I wanted to be part of any movement that changes society for the better. I wrote a persuasive essay trying to convince people to join the Movement and in the paper I loosely discussed a resource-based economy. When friends asked me about the details of the resource-based economy (how’s it work? Who controls the resources? Would we be trading one poor societal model for an equally poor or worse model?) I found that I didn’t have them at my disposal. When I did a Google search your paper was one of the results. It had some of the detail I was looking for, but it seems your group is at odds(?) with the Zeitgeist Movement. Therefore, out of respect for your group, I was not able to create a link to your paper, despite the fact it answered a lot of questions.

Let me first explain who I am and what my motivations are. I am the everyman. I’m the blue collar guy who has worked hard because I have to earn a living. I’ve rarely enjoyed any job I’ve had. I’m not a greedy person, I’ve never been motivated purely by monetary purposes – I’ve even declined jobs where I could’ve made good money but found them to be morally reprehensible. I am tired of the wars where people needlessly die because of a country’s greed, I am tired of seeing obese Americans all around me while scores of children starve to death in third world countries every year, I’m tired of being lied to by the media, I’m tired of being lied to by my government, I’m tired of being used by a company that only cares about me if I’m making them money, and I’m tired of so many people claiming to want a better world but not willing to do anything about it. My purpose in life is to help make the world a better place. I feel like there’s more to life than getting an education just so I can get a job that will allow me to earn a living and be a productive member of society. Life should be about being compassionate to your fellow human being, being passionate about what you do, and about helping others attain happiness and thereby gaining happiness yourself. I’m not a protestor. I’m not a revolutionary. I believe in non-violent methods of reform. I’m not a political scientist. I’m not a technocrat. I’m not a guy with a hidden agenda. I just want the world to be a better place and I think between the Zeitgeist Movement and your movement we can get there – but it won’t happen if there’s disunity. We can either all stand together or we can all fall separately.

I have to say I don’t know why Fresco trademarked ‘resource-based economy’. I don’t know that I really care. If he’s jet setting around the world I’m sure I didn’t know about that either. To me these are small details which pale in comparison to the much bigger picture of trying to create and implement a societal framework that vastly improves upon the pathetic dinosaur we have in place – a society that breeds inequality, injustice and misery. I really like your ideas even though they were just summarizations. I strongly urge you to join the Zeitgeist Movement (which is as simple as registering on their website) and hash out your differences. Ultimately the best plan will be used and Zeitgeist has a more popular movement; I went to your website to join and it had been taken down.

In order to be successful I think we need to put our egos aside and act for the good every person. I know that if we don’t band together then we’ll never have a chance and people will continue to suffer. As the Movement grows larger we will be opposed by the oligarchy – those who benefit the most from the current system. If we don’t present a unified front then we’re doomed before we even begin.

I would very much like to hear from you, whether you join Zeitgeist or not. My email is veritasluxmea1@yahoo.com.

Very Sincerely,
J.A. Powell
